Sponsor a Local Child or Youth

You can make a difference and play an integral role in providing opportunities for local children and youth to participate in our enrichment programs. Mangrove Society partners with local schools to select hard-working students from low-income families to attend our educational workshops and weekly enrichment programming which also includes academic support, environmental education, and English language instruction to better equip students and empower them to become the changemakers of the future.

Support Youth-Led Initiatives

Take an active role or donate to one of our Mangrove Society Community Giving Circle events. A giving circle is where individuals, businesses, and organizations come together and pool their donations to make a greater impact with their financial efforts. We seek out interested parties for the donation side as well as the youth applicants for project proposals. Mangrove Society provides support to youth by offering educational workshops in action-oriented community project development and then guides the winners through the project implementation, evaluation, and progress reporting. For each Giving Circle event hosted by Mangrove Society, three individuals or collaborative youth teams are selected to present their project ideas and plans for implementation. The Community Giving Circle members then vote on the project that they think best fits the needs of their community and the youth team that shows promise in carrying out the project with the support of Mangrove Society.

Help Us Build a Community Educational Center

Fundraising efforts are ongoing to complete the educational center for the underserved communities surrounding Cobano, located in rural Costa Rica. This building project has created a much-needed space for community members to learn together, both young and old, as well as offer opportunities for volunteers and visiting students to participate in workshops and programming. The geodesic dome is a practical building method for the local climate and offers a learning space at minimal costs. The structure has now been completed and we are looking for donors to help improve the rain cover, roofing, and add a  bathroom and storage room for educational materials.

Future Project: Basic Housing Quarters for Volunteers, Instructors, and Exchange Participants

Mangrove Society strives to bring people together to share best practices in sustainable community development, therefore it is crucial to have a space for volunteers, workshop leaders, scientists, and exchange participants coming to learn or lead onsite in the Cobano Branch. The construction method for the dormitories will be simple but built to last and function in the local climate at an affordable cost, using building techniques that focus on local resources and are practical for the area with minimal impact on the environment, such as adobe bricks, bamboo, and energy-efficient design.
