Internships

Are you studying at a University and are required to complete an internship with a nonprofit organization? Why not coming to Costa Rica and learn about green building, permaculture, community work, and more while improving your Spanish and having contact with the local diverse community?

We recently welcomed our first interns from France! Find out more about their experience through social media and check back in for their feedback after completion of their program.

YOUR TASKS

The tasks are as different and diverse as the people that come to the Mangrove Society. Let’s talk about your skills and we will find the perfect fit.

  • Tasks in the spotlight can be: lead workshops, courses, or classes (permaculture, green building, conservation, mental & physical well-being, recreational activities, languages, art, theater, music, dance etc.)
  • Tasks behind the scenes can be: fundraising, grant writing, social media, website, video/photo production, networking
  • Other tasks could be: community outreach, green building projects, composting projects, food forest development & expansion, and more

Intern program Specifics

We work with your university to fill out the proper forms, keep track of your performance and write you a letter of recommendation if merited.

  • Workload: 25-30 hours a week, depending on your program requirements
  • Weekly food staples are provided (rice, beans, oats, pasta, oil, eggs, and fruits, roots, greens & vegetables from the food forest). Possibility to order fresh food once a week at the farmer’s market. Supermarkets can be found in Cobano.
  • The volunteers will be housed in our eco-friendly glamping domes and have access to a shared kitchen and bathroom as well as all green spaces.
  • Minimal Volunteer Placement fee (varies depending on length of stay) which helps offset food and housing, while also supporting our scholarship programs for under-resourced families.

Free Time

Enjoy some leisure time in the near by areas of Santa Teresa, Montezuma, and the Natural Reserve of Cabo Blanco.

  • You will be surrounded by nature with beautiful rivers.
  • The beaches are nearby. There you can surf, take a walk, or just relax, read and enjoy the sun.
  • You can also be active and go on hikes nearby in the reserves, waterfall paths or canyons.
  • Every weekend you can find local markets in Montezuma and Santa Teresa.
  • You can also hang out on-site doing yoga, swimming and relaxing in the natural pool, playing basketball, volleyball, or football or just hanging out in a hammock to enjoy the country breeze or sounds of nature.
